My Sister the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite

This book is Oyinkan Braithwaite’s debut novel. It is set in Nigeria. It starts when Korede gets a call in the middle of the night from her younger sister, Ayoola. But when she gets that call, she immediately knows what is expected of her. Korede needs to bring bleach, rubber gloves, a strong stomach and all the muscle she can muster up. Korede is used to her sister’s antics and has helped her more than once with her crimes. Korede has a mind to turn her sister in to the authorities but does not because she’s been taught that “family comes first” no matter WHAT! However, this mantra is challenged when Ayoola starts to date a man that Korede has been in love with for a while! Korede is then forced to choose between her sister or saving the life of the man she loves!

For this to be Oyinkan’s debut novel, I was impressed. The pacing of the story was great. The storyline from start to finish is descriptive and engaging! I listened to this story on audio and the narrator was Adepero Oduye. The way she read the story made me want to know more about Korede’s and Ayoola’s story, I did not want to stop it! I loved the way Oyinkan painted the scenes, the characters and their personalities.
