Material Returns & Renewal


Locations to Return Items:

  1. Inside book drop on the first floor near the Holds Pickup shelves
  2. Outside book drops in the wall of the building near the North and South doors
  3. Drive-up return book drop on 7th St
  4. Inside the County Market stores on Dirksen, S. 6th St, and Veterans near the doors

Offsite Book Drop Details
The library offers three offsite book drops that are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

We generally pick up the materials from the book drops one time each week. If you drop an item off at an offsite book drop it remains on the account until it is retrieved and brought back to the library by staff. When we check the item back in we’ll backdate it to the time of our last pick up.

If you check your online account shortly after dropping the book in an offsite location, the item may be listed as due or overdue. Please be aware the item may be due in between pick up days.

To avoid unnecessary fees do not return materials to a book drop if the contents do not fit safely inside. When book drops are full please return at a later date or visit one of our other conveniently located book drops.

Offsite Book Drop Locations
You’ll find our offsite book drops near the entrances of the following County Market stores:

  • 3001 S Veterans Pkwy, Springfield, IL 62703 (Monday pickup)
  • 1501 S Dirksen Pkwy, Springfield, IL 62703 (Wednesday pickup)
  • 2777 S 6th St, Springfield, IL 62703 (Friday pickup)

Renew by Phone:

  1. Call (217) 753-4900.
  2. If an operator picks up, ask for extension 5616. Or, if an answering machine picks up - immediately press 5616 into your keypad. That will transfer you directly to the phone renewal line.
  3. Leave a message with the information that is requested. If there is a problem - staff will call you back.

Renew by Computer:

  1. On the Lincoln Library website click on the words “My Account” that are in the blue heading.
  2. Type in your barcode without any spaces between the numbers.
  3. Type in your PIN in the next blank labeled pin#.
  4. Click on "Login".
  5. Click on "Items out". A list of all items checked out will appear.
  6. Click the small square check box by each title you wish to renew.
  7. Click the "Renew" button.
  8. Then look at the right hand side of the screen to see the new due date. This is important, because not all renewal requests are allowed. If the due date did not change, the material must be brought back by the listed due date.
