Surviving the Holidays with Lori Gottlieb

Lincoln Library hosts bestselling author and psychotherapist Lori Gottlieb.  Lincoln Library accompanies more than 200 Illinois libraries to host Surviving the Holidays with Lori Gottlieb at 7 PM on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 326 S 7th St, Springfield, IL 62701. Gottlieb, New York Times bestselling author of Maybe You Should Talk to Someone, and co-host of the “Dear Therapists” podcast, joins us for a thought-provoking conversation about mental health in anticipation of the winter holiday season.

Lori Gottlieb is an entertaining speaker and trusted expert who can help us navigate the holiday season. The nonfiction author blends her clinical experience with the latest research and cultural developments with the goal of helping people live better lives. Attendees will witness this unique combination and the psychotherapist’s perspective of how stories form the core of each of us. 

Gottlieb’s book, Maybe You Should Talk to Someone, sold over a million copies and is currently being adapted into a television series. In addition to her clinical practice, she is co-host of the popular “Dear Therapists” podcast and writes The Atlantic’s “Dear Therapist” advice column. She has been on the “Today Show,” “Good Morning America,” CNN, and NPR’s “Fresh Air” as a therapy expert and her 2019 TED Talk was one of the most watched of the year. Season 3 continues in January 2024 when science fiction authors Cory Doctorow, Ken Liu and Martha Wells speculate about artificial intelligence. The virtual event takes place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11.

Author events are a cornerstone of library programming. Throughout the pandemic these events continued virtually as libraries collaborated to host authors and speakers. This ensured that Illinois communities had access to events that may otherwise be unattainable for a single library due to budget or production constraints. Illinois Libraries Present brought together diverse communities, ensured access to patrons across the state, and expanded the speaker’s platform.
