The Family Service Center is the product of mergers of several predecessor organizations, including the Home for the Friendless (later called the Children’s Service League), Associated Charities (later known as the Family Welfare Association), Springfield Day Nursery, Colored Children’s Service Bureau, and Child and Family Service. The name Family Service Center of Sangamon County was adopted in 1974.
