Herndon Family

The Herndon Family Collection is mainly a photographic collection centered on Richard Fleetwood and Kate Herndon’s immediate and extended families. The Herndon Family has deep connections in Springfield’s early history. Her mother was Cordelia Iles, her father was Washington Iles, and her uncle was Elijah Iles. Photographs in this collection fit into several categories besides biography. A few of them include street views, gardens, fashions, winter, children, and family life. There are also paper items such as: an invitation to the re-dedication of the Lincoln Tomb; cancelled 1883 checks signed by Elijah Iles; a deed; Red Cross certificates, and diplomas.
