Parents who have experienced the loss of a child founded the not for profit organization Springfield Angel of Hope in August 2007. The organization dedicated the Angel of Hope statue in the Washington Park Botanical Garden on October 4, 2008. The Angel of Hope statue commemorates the lives of children who have died and is designed to provide a place of comfort, peace, and hope for bereaved parents and families. The wall around the statue lists the names of children who died. The organization holds an annual Candlelight Remembrance Ceremony at the statute. The Springfield Angel of Hope also hosts a memorial walk called “A Walk to Remember” in October, which is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month, and commemorates the lives of babies lost due to miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant death.
